MPL Leader

MPL Leader: your AI leadership coach.

Prepare for difficult conversations at work, practice giving feedback, and plan more purposeful one-on-ones. MPL Leader is the companion app to Maximum Performance Learning, bringing leadership practice into the time between coaching sessions.

What Is MPL Leader?

An AI coach in your pocket, between the sessions.

MPL Leader is a web app — you open it in your browser, create a free account, and start working with it right away. There's nothing to download or install, and it works on your phone, tablet, or laptop.

Inside, an AI leadership coach built on Arnold Maler's Insight Solutions approach helps you do the three things busy managers never get time for: rehearse a difficult conversation before it happens, plan a one-on-one so it has a real purpose, and follow through on what you said you'd do. You type in your situation — a performance issue, a nervous review, a promise you're at risk of breaking — and the coach walks you through it step by step, asking the questions a great leadership coach would ask.

Most people use it in five-to-ten-minute moments: the morning before a hard meeting, on the commute home, or Sunday night while planning the week. It's designed for managers and emerging leaders at growing companies — and for anyone working with Arnold who wants to keep the momentum going between coaching sessions.

Who it's for

  • New and mid-level managers who inherited a team but never got management training.
  • Emerging leaders preparing for the step up into people leadership.
  • Executives who want structured practice, not another course to fall behind on.
  • Arnold's coaching clients, keeping the work alive between sessions.

Difficult Conversations at Work

Practice giving feedback before the meeting.

A missed deadline, a recurring performance concern, or tension between colleagues can make a manager hesitate. Preparing for a difficult conversation means getting specific about what happened, explaining its impact, and making room for the other person's perspective — not memorizing a speech. Use MPL Leader to rehearse your situation before you speak with your team member.

Example: two missed deadlines

Illustrative coaching scenario — not a client story or a transcript from the app.

A team member's last two weekly reports arrived a day late. Another colleague had to delay the customer update. You want to address the pattern without assuming the person doesn't care.

A starting prompt for your practice

“Help me rehearse a feedback conversation with a team member whose last two reports were a day late. The delays held up our customer update. I want to be clear about expectations and understand what's getting in the way. Let's practice how I open the conversation and respond if they say their workload is too high.”

Use made-up names and leave out confidential employee or customer details when describing a situation.

A possible conversation to rehearse

  1. 1. Start with facts and impact

“The last two weekly reports arrived a day after the deadline, which delayed our customer update. I'd like to understand what's getting in the way and agree on a plan for the next report.”

  2. 2. Get curious before deciding

If they say, “I have too much on my plate,” try: “Let's look at the competing priorities. What is taking the most time, and what needs to change for this deadline to be realistic?” Listen before jumping to a solution.

  3. 3. Agree on a specific next step

“Let's confirm the priorities today and check in Thursday about any blockers ahead of Friday's deadline.” Close by asking the team member to summarize what you've both agreed to do.

Take the practice into your next one-on-one

After rehearsing, bring a clear opening, an honest question, and a proposed next step to the real meeting. Afterwards, reflect on what you heard and follow through on your commitments. AI practice supports your preparation; it doesn't replace your judgment, company policies, or professional HR advice. For a sensitive or complex people situation, explore leadership coaching with Arnold.

Why It Works

Built on the Insight Solutions approach.

MPL Leader applies the same assessment-driven thinking Arnold has used with executives for three decades — the practice of naming what a situation demands, rehearsing it deliberately, and following through — translated into a tool you can use every week.

It works on its own for motivated managers, and it works even better alongside Insight Solutions Coaching: use the app between sessions to build the habits, and use coaching to go deeper on what the practice surfaces.
